Will precautions be necessary?
There are no precautions to take when having a Memokath™ stent. It is possible to continue daily activities shortly after the insertion.
Is there any risk of side effects or complications?
The side effects are usually very few and only minor. After the treatment you may experience a small amount of blood in the urine for a short period of time. This is completely normal and will disappear after a few days.
Although the risk of complication is minor there is a risk of stent migration or stone formation but normally the Memokath™ stent can be repositioned or removed if necessary. Retrograde ejaculation can occur for the prostate stent but Memokath is a reversible procedure and thereby it is safe to insert.
After the insertion
After the treatment it is common to have a follow-up visit at the hospital. Your urologist will arrange this.
Contact your doctor if you experience:
- Flank or abdominal pain
- Difficulties urinating
- Pain when urinating
- Symptoms of a urinary tract infection (High temperature, strong urge to urinate, pain passing urine)
- Retrograde ejaculation
- Feeling uncomfortable
You will get a card explaining that you have an implant. It is important to carry the card with you in case you need to see a doctor or go to the hospital.
