Memokath™ 028 Prostate
Memokath™ 028 Prostate is a non-allergenic metallic stent used to effectively treat prostatic obstruction without the side-effects of major surgery, or discomfort of catheters.
Brief introduction
Memokath™ 028 Prostate is a non-allergenic metallic stent used to effectively treat benign and malignant prostatic obstruction. The stent is inserted in 20-30 minutes under local anesthesia with a cystoscope or a catheter through the urethra and is positioned across the obstruction allowing urine to flow freely through the prostate. Memokath™ 028 Prostate preserves normal bladder control and provides urinary flow without the side-effects of major surgery and discomfort of catheters. It can remain inside the body for up two years or more before needing replacement.
Use of Memokath™ 028 Prostate
Memokath™ 028 Prostate is used for prostatic obstruction whether caused by benign prostatic enlargement (BPH) or prostatic cancer. Memokath™ 028 Prostate treats obstructions without the debilitating side-effects of surgery, and discomfort of catheters making it a preferred choice for patients who wish to avoid these. The minimal invasive nature of Memokath™ 028 Prostate also makes it a sensible choice for patients of high age, frailty, on anticoagulant medicine, or for those suffering from dementia who risk inflicting severe damage and pain on themselves by removing their catheters through force.

Retrograde ejaculation is another known side-effect of Memokath™ 028 Prostate in which case, the patient may decide to remove the stent to regain normal ejaculatory function. The complication risk is also minor and pertains to stent migration or encrustation. If the stent migrates, it can often be repositioned. If not, it can simply be removed or exchanged with a new stent. If the stent encrusts it will typically have to be exchanged. Vigilance by both patients and doctors towards reoccurring symptoms is always recommended in case the stent has migrated as well as to avoid complete encrustation.
Living with Memokath™ 028 Prostate
Memokath™ 028 Prostate typically offers patients a quick return to daily activities after treatment, most often with a substantial decrease in symptoms, and little or no side-effects or complications. Instructing the patients to drink plenty of water will help minimize risk of encrustation. Patient-checkups are advised to ensure the stent continues to function optimally.
